The Caged Lion

There once lived a lion in a zoo. It was a popular zoo; many people visited the zoo every day. Some days later, there was a gradual decrease in the people coming to the zoo. This resulted in the decrease of the lion’s food.

One day there were no visitors at all at the zoo, on that day, the lion got even less food. The lion found out that there was a pandemic because of a virus!

After two days the lion was shifted into a small cage and loaded onto a truck. The truck moved out of the zoo. All the streets in the town looked deserted. The lion did not understand where it was being taken.

After a long drive the truck stopped near a hillock in the forest. The lion was exhausted. The cage was unloaded from the truck. The cage door was opened the lion did not know what to do. Meat was served in a bowl for the lion. The amount of meat was much more than what the lion was getting these days.

As the lion was tired and hungry he started eating the meat.

The lion noticed the truck moving away from there. The lion stopped eating and followed the truck. It followed the truck for a long time but could not catch up.

Then it returned back and was surprised to find that there was no meat in the bowl.

It was getting dark, it was cold and the lion was feeling hungry. The lion walked around the forest looking for a cage to sleep in. But, he could not find one. Finally he found a cave to sleep in.

While resting in the cave the lion started thinking about his past.

He was born and brought up in the zoo. He was not afraid of people as every day he would see hundreds of children, men, women and old people. He had enough food to eat and a nice warm place to sleep. With these thoughts the lion went into a deep sleep.

The lion did not wake up till late in the morning. He woke up with a startle when he heard a grunting sound. When he opened his eyes he saw a big black bear. With one leap he jumped out of the cave and ran into the forest.

The lion headed back to the hillock to see if someone had come to take him back to the zoo. No one was there. As it was very hot and sunny the lion sat panting under the shade of a tree.

After a while there was a hustle in the bushes. The lion saw a rabbit; involuntarily the lion shook his head, as the lion's mane swayed from one side to another he jumped onto the rabbit, killed it instantly and ate it up. The lion’s hunger was satisfied.
